scene 19: Truck and Jackie

EXT. HUNTER'S DRIVEWAY - DAY

Sunny day. The GARAGE DOOR OPENS to reveal Hunter, Tom and Chloe. Hunter and Chloe in hiking boots and jeans. Her ballcap complements her pink long-sleeve tee with PISMO in white across the front. Backpack slung over a shoulder. Hunter's sunglasses atop a fishing cap, raglan-style tee with sleeves a different color than the body. Tom is cowboy per usual. He follows Chloe toward the truck. Hunter gets in the Range Rover, backs it to the street.

CHLOE: Nice truck.

TOM: Ya like it?

CHLOE: Cool two-tone.

TOM: Ain't the original paint but it's the same colors.

Tom fishes key from pants pocket.

CHLOE: What year model?

TOM: Eighty-seven.

He opens the driver's door.

CHLOE: Did you buy it new?

He gets sunglasses from visor sleeve. 

TOM: No. My dad did. This was his last truck

CHLOE: Really? 

TOM: Yes ma'am. 

Hunter parks on the street, gets out, approaches Tom and Chloe. 

CHLOE: Love the bench seat.

TOM: That ain't original either. And a course it didn't come with the satellite radio. Put that in a few months ago.

CHLOE: No G-P-S.

TOM: It's in the glove compartment.

Hunter arrives.

HUNTER: What's in the glove compartment?

TOM: G-P-S. 

HUNTER: That might've helped you find your way back to Dripping Springs Road.

Hunter winks. 

TOM: Yessir, I reckon it woulda.

CHLOE: This was Dale's last truck.

HUNTER: Really?

TOM: Yessir. Paid cash for it and drove it off the lot in Fort Worth on his way back home with friends from a Cowboys game.

Chloe's attention is drawn down the road.

CHLOE: Yonder comes a car.

Tom and Hunter turn to see the nearing car coming from the direction Tom had. Its form suggests convertible.

HUNTER: Heeere's Jackie.

Hunter walks to the street, Tom closes the truck door, stands next to Chloe as they watch Hunter, in aircraft marshalling style, direct JACKIE, 50ish, the driver of the early-90s Alfa Romeo Spider, top down, to the driveway and garage. She parks in the Rover's spot, puts sunglasses in shirt pocket, gets out with backpack from passenger seat, quick kiss with Hunter, who takes her hand. She's fit, in jeans, cowgirl boots, long-sleeve blouse, SKI APACHE ballcap. 

JACKIE: And I was nervous about meeting Chloe.

HUNTER: I think everyone's a little anxious.   

Hunter leads her to Tom and Chloe, Tom removes his hat.

HUNTER: So. Chloe, Tom, it's my pleasure to introduce you to Jackie. Jackie, meet Chloe and Tom.

Jackie and Chloe shake hands.

JACKIE: Chloe, it's good to meet you.

CHLOE: Good to meet you too, Jackie. 

Jackie and Tom shake hands.

JACKIE: Tom, I'm so glad you're able to come along.

CHLOE: My great fortune, Jackie. Thanks for havin' me along. Thank all y'all.

HUNTER: So. Shall we?

JACKIE: Let's.

Hunter activates the GARAGE DOOR CLOSING, leads the group to the Rover.

JACKIE (cont.): We have another late addition, by the way. My cousin's girlfriend will be joining us.

HUNTER: The more the merrier. 

At the Rover Hunter takes Chloe's and Jackie's backpacks, puts them in back. Chloe gets in back, Tom follows her lead, Jackie in front passenger seat, Hunter behind the wheel. He starts the engine, drives away.
